help me out here.
i'm debating on ordering a PS1 and 1 of 2 games..

final fantasy 8
or
final fantasy 7

both are great, but i'm one of those people that you rarely hear about and call ignorant because i LOVED 8.

so, it's not a question of which one, as i plan on getting both, just having a hard time deciding on which one to get first....or if i should get none of the above and spend money elsewhere.

tax season is about to kick up (less than a week  ) and for about 2-3 weeks, i'm gonna need something to do when i get home from work...so let's compare and contrast shall we?

snowboarding vs stupid PITA card game (which i am a master of, bwahahaha).

chocobo breeding vs junction/draw system (bite my ass, chocobo farm)

awesome story vs awesome story (this one doesn't help much)

blocky/ popeye characters vs the smoothnessity of ff8

yuffie vs selphie (the worst of the worst)...no cait sith doesn't apply here, he's non existant almost.

so help me out here, i'm drawing straws, but i'm leaning more towards 8....
cause like i said, i just enjoyed 8 a hell of a lotta bunch....plus, i can say that it's one of the first games i actually put the time and effort to do EVERYTHING there is to do in it and pretty much have the strategy guide memorized....(the things i waste brain room on)

only thing is...i can only find 2 prime copies of 7 that are even worth it.
this includes all 3 disks, mint condition...box, unopened...the works. goes for about 50 bucks, where as 8 goes for about 15 in mint.

so, if you got an opinion, lemme hear it...
or if you can find a better deal :D

that is all

best regards,
farf

My memory is rusty on FF8, but if its the one with gunswords then I say FF8 has my vote. With gun-sword hybrids how could you go wrong?

I know everyone says 7 was the best by far blah blah blah... but you know what??

Screw you chocobo breeding.

I loved 8, and like you Farf, I did everything in that game. That's what I say go with.

yup, 8 is the one with the gunblades

stabbing people with bullets.

that and it pretty much killed the entire ff series for me.

i remember beating the omega weapon and saying..."yup, i'll never play another one of these again." and shortly there after, they dropped 9....which had orco from he-man in it..sigh.

yup, ima go with 8...i just think it's better.

i'll get 7 another day.
plus, the whole ps 1 and 8 package will run me about 50 bucks :D minus shipping and handling.

i hocked my ps 1 and ff8 a loooong time ago..been lookin for it ever since.

oh happy day

heh, i just remembered something about 8. only jorm will know what this is

josh, and his epic struggle with ultimecia....and the timely arrival of giglamesh

"it's about G-Damn time you showed up....i haven't seen you since i got your sorry ass, and finally you pick now to interrupt my fight....this better be good"

"WHAT?!! EXCALIPOOR?!! what the hell is that? i wish odin where here, at least he'd use zantetsuken! i'd know he was trying...that's it, i hate this G-damn game, i'll never play this piece of shit again!"

the above was a friend of ours literally going insane.....there's lots more profanity but i edited it for the most part...

good times...and yeah, i'm such a nerd :?

Bah, get a PS2, not a PS1. Then you can get quality games like Kingdom Hearts, the Metal Gear Solid series, God of War, FFX, and Shadow of the Colossus, plus have another dvd player. Also, if you don't have a Gamecube, you can pick up Resident Evil 4.

I like all of the FF games, but 7 is by far my favorite. There's certain elements about 8 that I liked more, but I HATED how monsters leveled up with Squall (who was usually required to be in your party) making it more difficult to level other characters if he got ahead since they'd get raped, and I HATED the draw system and how I was actually slightly weakened by using my spells, and in order to get it back I'd have to go to the middle of nowhere and draw 20 more ultimas. Card game kicked ass though. 7's strength was in the extremely well developed characters and what I felt was a much stronger plot than ff8. They all lived in a fuckin orphanage together? Come on, that's bullshit. When you're playing an 80 hour game with similar combat systems overall, it's the plotline that you'll want to focus on.

Really, you should be looking for FF:T though. Has the plot, the graphics, the music, and the deepest combat system I've seen in a Tactical RPG.

I've actually just started playing ff9 again. Surprisingly I'm enjoying it enough that I might beat it this time. You can probably get that one cheap too. And don't bash Vivi, he's an extremely cool character if you actually play the game. He looks exactly like the black mages always have in the series.

:D

i can't help but notice that laguna does have an uncanny resemblance to sandra bullock though

meh, i'm goin old school on this one just for novelty's sake...

ps1 with ff8,

then, i'm gonna get ff7 and tecmo's deception (loved it, check it out sometime  ).

then maybe pick up some crono cross and who knows what else.....resident evil 1&2, silent hill....

hell maybe even xenogears....i played the demo and it seemed like fun.

edit:
also forgot about tactics ogre, symphony of the night, and this glorious monstrosity

I thought Medievil was kind of entertaining too. Chad bought me a PS1 the first Christmas we were together, and we picked that game up on the way to his mom's for the holiday.

We played it all night till the power went out due to an ice storm. We were supposed to be sleeping in seperate rooms (weren't even engaged yet) but since the house got so cold we had an excuse to *cough* snuggle.

So, fond memories of that game anyway. :D

Schooled me in Golden Eye.... Lady you and your friends were screaming and bitching about my prox and det mines. Some of the time I felt it was a good idea to let you kill me just to keep the game going. :P  "I WAS LIKE BOOM HEAD SHOT!!!"

P.S. Farf Xenogears was a pretty cool and interesting game and so was http://www.megghy.com/immagini/Psx/FICH ... on_Pal.jpg
