Lilae,

I never thought I'd come back to DAoC. Too many bad memories, and it left one heck of a nasty taste in my mouth.

My memories of the game were frustrating exp'ing in PvE, a nonsense crafting system where I could make a 99% axe-handle, then forge a 100% masterpiece blade, and combine the two into a 91% final axe.

And my RvR memories -- running around with a group of folks in the frontier, then getting chain mezzed, and just standing there waiting for someone to come kill me.

I never thought I'd come back. Then a few months ago I decided I'd give it a try again and see what was different. It was night and day to me. ToA master levels, teleporters everywhere, and they'd FINALLY gotten the houses in the game that were promised since day 1.

Then James found out I was online again and he dropped by and gave me all my old coin that I'd earned weaponsmithing on Cicero, and I was set.

If you talk about being "behind" on the curve -- don't think for a minute that it would take any of us together more than a week to get you any items and gear you could want, and less than that in Modernagrav leveling artis, or questing for Champion Level 5 or whatever else you're up for.

I promise you, I'm behind the curve more than most any of you guys now. Most of my toons are only R2Ln or something. I don't have any R3 or higher yet, but I have a lot of fun running around and doing stuff with everyone.

I don't care about being perfect or using this ability just when, or that -- and I know I've got a lot of catching up to do, but I have a great time just getting out there with friends and trying.

Sure, sometimes Albs hit you for 3,697 damage, and as a middie there's just not a lot you can do against that sort of firepower, but it's still fun to go out there.

No problem man, I just didn't like that you were trying to make it sound like a decision to abandon friends for loot, because that's certainly not the case.

I'm only saying DAOC is horrible because it actually is. A lot of the changes they've made recently put it back toward where it should be, but there's still the glaring errors of New Frontiers (the worst decision mythic ever made) and the continued class and spec imbalances. Not to mention that the items introduced by recent expansions starting with toa took the game from something that you could be fully rvr gear competitive via casual play in one month with a character to something that takes far too many inexcusably boring hours. The SI end-dungeons were fun, and had expansion PvE content been along those lines and had gear similar to that I think it would have worked a lot better. Mythic had what was an extremely fun and accessible game on their hands, it's a shame what they did to it.

On the other hand, I'm sure daoc was probably a lot more fun for realms other than alb because it would be much easier to find fights in rvr, especially ones that don't involve the main zerg at whatever keep. We had to buff up (OH BOY 1 HOUR WASTED WAITING TO FIND OUT WHO'S GONNA LOG ON THE BOT!), port out, and run around for upwards of 1-2 hours looking for a fight at times. You guys didn't have too look too hard to find albs did ya? :P
