helluva day

you learn how to do taxes and hope to help people out and generally, most people that know you come to you and say something like "hey kenny do my taxes free."

so you play it nice, you roll with it and say "sure thing, i'll do that for ya, you're my friend why not?"

so you go over the finances and things like that and it turns out they owe...big time. now keep in mind you aren't responsible for this person keeping his finances and shit in order throughout the year, all you do is put it on paper.

yet now, you don't know what you're doing and messed up somewhere along the line because that 4k they drew in unemployment without holding taxes on, or that 11k they made self employed and didn't have anything to claim against, that crap couldn't have been the reason they have to pay.

nope, you don't know your craft. the one occupation that you actually for the most part enjoy, you suck at and don't know the first thing about because johnny goodfriend can't accept the fact that he sucks at record keeping, is irresponsible (coming from me, that is the biggest insult of all....ever) and is overall, not a very good friend.

all's fair in love and war, and people are down right insane when it comes to this time of year, but you'd think that as much as they count every penny for 2-3 months at the beggining of the year, they could do the same for the rest of the 365 days.

i'm grateful for the people i know that have me do their taxes and are happy about it because they don't have to pay anything...i charge them nothing

people like chris and his parents. they accept whatever is that comes their way and don't really complain about it. mainly, they're happy that it gets done.

then you have people like today. you barely ever see them yet somehow you're their "friend" and they expect that the world owes them for being born.

they get pissy when it gets time for them to fork over cash to the irs because it's just the facts we have to accept for living in this country. this shit doesn't run itself and NOTHING but NOTHING is free except for charity and kindness, and even that cost someone in the long run.

it pisses me off when shit like this happens.

ingrateful bastards i tell ya.
next year, if i don't have my cpa license and own an office at 420 main, i'll damn well make sure the fees go up by 45% on assholes who falsify returns in the first place.

that is my rant for the year, appreciate you readin it or lookin right over it.

We got our taxes back today.

It's been a rough year for me this past year. First off, my accountant whom I've used every year since I can remember up had the audacity to go and die on me last July, and she wouldn't return any of my calls this year about whether she's feeling up to handling my taxes if I dug her up and left 'em with her or anything - so I had to go find another accountant.

So I called around to a few new accounting firms here in town to find one that would handle my stuff for me, and get prices, etc. And I found one that came in like $40 cheaper than any of the others, plus was a well established accounting agency, etc. So I take my paperwork and receipts and stuff down for them to handle for me. It took them 3 weeks to finish and then the final price they quote me was $30 more than they originally said. (Still $10 cheaper than their next competitor, but $30 more than they told me on the phone, so I was upset about that.)

This is the first year She and I have done our taxes jointly since my divorce, and it turns out between mine and her combined incomes last year -- we ended up owing the federal government roughly her entire yearly salary in taxes :( (We're still getting a refund, if you want to call it that, but dang.)

It sucks too, because I'm paying child support on my son to my ex, and I can't claim ANY of that money towards my tax deductions, and I can't claim my son as a dependant because I inadvertantly agreed to let me ex claim him without realizing I wouldn't be able to touch his child-support money come tax time. AND -- it's my understanding that my ex doesn't have to count that money as income which IMO is the real kicker.

And I know that has to be frustrating to my wife, because I can't claim any of it, and it's like I'm being penalized twice at tax season for child support. And then she gets drug into it, because it's just taken right off the top and once all the numbers are run, we end up owing what basically amounts to her whole gross salary.

Granted, she and I aren't going hungry because of it or anything, but you'd think Uncle Sam could cut folks paying child support more of a break.
