good thoughts and wishes please!

Post by Lilae »

so wednesday Turc is having an operation on his spine.

He's getting his L5-S1 fused and will be laid up in hospital for 2 days at least :(

Wish him well! I'm worried as hell, but it's just me being silly I'm sure.

He insists on taking his laptop, even though I'm sure he'll be asleep most of the time afterwards. I'll try to keep you guys up to date.

I'll probably call you afterwards at some point, Khary. I have a feeling I'll need to talk to friends at some point. :p You know how worried I get.

update:

surgery went well, according to the doctor, but Chad's been in excruciating pain since yesterday.

The first day he was ok, was on morphine drip, ate a meal, and even got up and walked a couple laps around the nurse's station with a walker and some assistance.

Yesterday morning they took him off of IV and the drip, and put him on Loritab 10's. Those made him nauseous so they gave him some meds for nausea, but still he didn't eat all day but one or two crackers. He had a 101.3 fever for a while so they made him to sit up straight in a chair for a while to force him to breathe deeper and handled that with some Tylenol. After a while of suffering, they switched him over to Mepergan and Flexoril (pain and muscle relaxers) to ease the nausea but so far it hasn't worked. Doc added Valium to help him sleep but that didn't do much good either.

He and I were up all night, he couldn't sleep for more than a few minutes at a time and neither could I. Around 4am the nurse gave him a shot and that knocked him out for a couple hours and I slept a little. I was up around 7 helping him up to the bathroom, then his mom showed up and I headed home after a bit to let the dog out.

All in all, I think he's improving, but he doesn't think so. He was supposed to come home today, but the way he's feeling it looks like he'll stay another night. They won't let him go unless he can get around a bit better and his pain is managed. Luckily no sign of fever today so far. :)

Anyway, keep the well wishes coming. I really had no idea, and neither did he, that this would be so hard. It's killing me to see him hurt so badly. :(

Bish, I know Chad would be thrilled to have his very own Aussie butler to fetch beer (since we never trained the dog to do it) so still can't wait to see ya! ;) I'm sure he will be feeilng a lot better in a couple weeks.

Sorry to hear the recovery is so harsh... I know when my cousin had her jaw reconstructed and they took that morphine drip away she was in hell. I hope Chad gets ta feelin atleast a little better soon, and yeah Loritab 10s can be pretty harsh especially on the stomach. Tell him me and Gwen hope he starts turning around for the better.
