Update

Post by Kharybdis »

Well, VTers, I've been absent for a while, so I figured I'd update you all on what's going on in Kharyworld.

Mrs. Khary is nearly finished with her dissertation (editing stages right now) and had some interviews with a variety of colleges over the past month and a half. She received an offer from the University of Denver that is ideal for her, and she accepted it. She'll be starting as a lecturer there in September.

That means we're moving across the country to Denver, Colorado. I'm not looking forward to going through the job hunt again, and I'm kind of hoping that my current employer will allow me to do a remote work kind of thing, at least for a while. I should be able to find work in Denver, though, if I have to... I just hate the entire interview process.

All of this activity has been made more difficult, however, because of Mrs. Khary's back problems. She's had them the entire time I've known her, but they've been getting substantially worse over the last year. After several doctor visits, we discovered that one of her discs had deteriorated, making her spine unstable. As a result, she's been in pretty serious pain the last several months, and has been on a ton of painkillers (making that dissertation writing a bit more difficult).

Luckily, we're going to a surgeon at the end of this month so she can get a spacer put in where the bad disc is and get a couple of her vertebrae fused, which should eliminate the pain and allow her to recover fully from the surgery before we move. Of course, that means my workload at home will be increased, since she won't be able to lift anything over 10 pounds for several months.

Speaking of things over 10 pounds, our daughter is doing very well, though she's in the middle of her terrible twos. She's willful and volatile, but she's also brilliant and has an amazing personality. Her imagination is really coming out now, and she often has her stuffed animals come hold conversations with us. We're very much looking forward to getting her out of the deep South before she develops an accent. :?

Anyhow, I just wanted to catch up with you all a little bit. I hope to be able to start gaming again (I really want to), but it's going to have to wait until this fall. Hope everyone's doing well.

Khary

Great to hear from you Khary! Congrats on your wife's new job and the opportunities in Denver! That puts you only 2 states away!

Sorry to hear that Mrs. Khary's back is causing so much trouble. Best wishes for a speedy recover after surgery!

Further updates...

Well, I am going to have to job hunt, after all, since my current employer doesn't want to do the telecommute thing with me. But that's kind of what I expected, so I've got a couple of months to find something in Denver.

The surgery went very well for Mrs. Khary, and she's started her physical therapy. They've weaned her off the drugs for the most part and are working with her to get her muscles strengthened and stretched. She still has a lot of back pain, but it's all residual pain from the surgery, not from the original problem. She should be back to normal for the first time in years within a couple of months.

Hope things are still going well for everyone here.

Great news Khary! Hope recovery goes well for her!

btw, I will be out in Colorado Springs this summer on a business trip (late July). If you're around, I'll see if I can swing a stop in Denver on my route back.

Cheers,

I really wish I could go to Mrs. Khary's graduation :( I was seriously considering it until I found out I'll need to have laser surgery very soon or may lose sight in at least one or both eyes.

Appt friday at the specialist in Huntsville so hopefully all will be well soon.

I wish I could see her walk so much. Give her hugs from Chad and me. <3

Yikes, Lil! :(

Well, we're going to be driving through there tonight on the way to graduation, and I don't know that we'll be stopping in the area, but we are definitely stopping back through later this week (on Friday, I think). Logan and Terry are having a housewarming party that we're going to try to attend, so we will try to catch up with you and Turc then, if at all possible.

If we miss you, we'll make sure to come down again very soon. We miss you guys. I hope your appointment goes well, and that you get that eye stuff taken care of.
